A Century Later: Is Seymour’s Prophecy of a Greater Revival Being Fulfilled?
Not long after the Azusa Street Revival ignited in 1906, the leader of the revival, an African American man named William J. Seymour, prophesied that an even greater revival would unfold over a century later.
Is it possible we’re beginning to see signs of this prophecy coming to pass today?
My wife Erica and I, along with journalist and author Troy Anderson and others, recently celebrated the 119th anniversary of the great Azusa Street Revival that began on April 9, 1906 in downtown Los Angeles.
This historical revival—which 700 to 800 million Christians today can trace their spiritual roots to—changed the world forever.
God used Seymour mightily during the time of Jim Crow laws of segregation. This man would have to sit outside of classrooms to learn about the baptism in the Holy Spirit because of the separation between blacks and whites.
Seymour was known for preaching on the baptism in the Holy Spirit and fire before he was ever filled with the Holy Spirit. There came a point in history when the power of God would raise up Seymour and baptize him with the fires of Pentecost, empowering him to lead the Azusa Street Revival. The glory was so powerful during a time of racial divide that Frank Bartleman, the great intercessor of the Azusa Street Revival, said, “The color line was washed away by the blood of Jesus.”
Today, there is only one structure that still remains from the Azusa Street Revival. It is a house at 216 N. Bonnie Brae Street in Los Angeles known as the Bonnie Brae House. This house is the birthplace of the Azusa Street Revival.
This is where Seymour would preach from the porch until a large gathering of people came and the porch collapsed. The miracle is that no one was hurt!
Documenting the Revival: A Historic Prayer Gathering at the Bonnie Brae House Marks a Prophetic Turning Point
My wife Erica and I reserve the Bonnie Brae House every year for a prayer meeting. This year was powerful as we invited Troy to join us for a prayer meeting inside the Bonnie Brae House as well as visit the historical landmark at 312 Azusa Street where the footprint of the old Azusa Street Mission of 1906 is marked. Apostle Wilma Berry shared some history of the Azusa Street Revival when we gathered on April 13.
Troy is in the process of writing a powerful book on the revival now unfolding, the follow-up to his bestseller The Trump Code. Therefore, meeting at this historical house that is a revival hotspot was instrumental as he pens the heart of God for his latest book. Troy is a Pulitzer Prize-nominated investigative journalist, bestselling author of many books, founder of the Inspire Literary Group, former executive editor of Charisma magazine and Charisma Media, former reporter at the Los Angeles Daily News, and a regular guest on many television and radio shows.
As we gathered at the Bonnie Brae House for prayer, singing and speaking in tongues, a minister said the Lord told him Troy would “document” the revival underway in America and the world. Not long after we gathered at the Bonnie Brae House, the Barna Group released an encouraging report, saying 66 percent of all U.S. adults say they have made a personal commitment to Jesus that is still important in their lives today, marking a 12-percentage-point increase since 2021, when commitment levels reached their lowest in more than three decades.
“This shift is not only statistically significant—it may be the clearest indication of meaningful spiritual renewal in the United States,” according to Barna. “Commitment to Jesus was lowest in 2021 and 2022, when it bottomed out at 54 percent. Since then, the research shows a steady, year-over-year increase in the key indicator.”
“Undeniably, there is renewed interest in Jesus,” said David Kinnaman, chief executive officer of Barna. “Many people have predicted the growing irrelevance of Christianity, however, this data shows that spiritual trends have a dynamism and can, indeed, change. This is the clearest trend we’ve seen in more than a decade pointing to spiritual renewal—and it’s the first time Barna has recorded such spiritual interest being led by younger generations.”
Among the biggest drivers of the “Jesus resurgence” are young people—particularly Generation Z and Millennials. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Millennials and Generation Z have shown significant increases in commitment to Jesus.
“That sets up the context for another counterintuitive trend: men—especially younger men—are more likely to be Jesus followers than are younger women,” according to Barna. “For example, among Gen Z men, commitment to Jesus jumped 15 percentage points between 2019 and 2025. Millennial men saw a similar spike of 19 percentage points.”

The Supernatural Fire of Azusa
History records that the supernatural fire of God was seen visibly resting on the Bonnie Brae home during the revival of 1906-1909.
The fire department would show up in response to reports of fire on the rooftop, but the reality was that there was no physical fire as the Bonnie Brae House was engulfed in the Shekinah Glory of God.
Jennie Evans Moore, who lived across the street from the Bonnie Brae House, was resting on a stool when the power of God struck her and, suddenly, she collapsed and began speaking in tongues in six or seven different languages. She had never played the piano before, but when she was filled with the Holy Spirit and power, she walked across the street and played the piano perfectly while singing in tongues as her music was called music from heaven.
The current historian of this house today, known as Sister Sol, still tells the great stories of the revival in the home as she gives the tour. The piano of 1906-1909 remains in the home today.
Within days of the fire of God falling on the Bonnie Brae House the revival was moved to 312 Azusa Street in Los Angeles, a place that is known as the cradle of the worldwide Pentecostal and Charismatic movement.
No structure stands at this location anymore, but the footprint of this revival is marked by a plaque set amid the bricks of the plaza at 312 Azusa Street.
History records that the glory of God was so strong that people’s nubs would begin to transform into full arms and full hands as they began to grow back. Wheel chairs, canes and crutches lost their owners. Peg-legs were removed as the power of God restored brand new limbs.
An Encounter with the Holy Spirit
I’ll never forget the first time I went to the Bonnie Brae House and 312 Azusa Street. As I stood in the exact location of both places, I had an encounter where the fire of the Holy Spirit began to physically burn from the top of my head, through my body, down to the bottom of my feet, and I heard the Holy Spirit say, “Son, take the same Azusa fire back to your region.”
In that moment I was convinced by the Holy Spirit that the flames of Pentecost that burned from 1906-1909 and burned in Acts 2 in the days of Pentecost are the same fires of awakening that God desires to release today across the globe.
The Azusa Street Mission hosts an annual event known as Azusafest that commemorates the mighty Azusa Street Revival. This annual event reminds those across America and around the world that the fire of God never changes and God desires to pour out His Spirit once again in the last days.
Azusafest 2025 marked 19 years that this celebration has happened. This annual gathering was led by the late Apostle Fred and Wilma Berry, who reopened the Azusa Street Mission in 2006, commissioned by Apostle Bill Hamon and the Christian International Board of Regents to pastor the new Azusa Street Mission. Apostle Fred Berry went to heaven on November 16, 2021. However, the vision of the Azusa Street Mission lives on desiring to “to carry the Flame of Azusa to the Next Generation throughout the Nations of the World.”
The current status of the Azusa Street Mission is that it remains the full vision and passion of Apostle Wilma Berry to continue to fulfill this work with my wife and I who now serve as the Vice President of the Azusa Street Mission as well as the Director of Azusa Street Apostolic Network that offers ministerial credentials of being Associate Ministers, Licensed Ministers, and Ordained Ministers.
An ASAN Associate Minister is one who is licensed or ordained by another ministry or network but desires relationship with ASAN. An ASAN Licensed Minister is one who is actively pursuing full-time, five-fold ministry and desires affiliation with ASAN. An ASAN Ordained Minister is one who is established in full-time ministry and wishes to be confirmed by the laying on of hands to participate in a committed relationship with the Holy Spirit. Also be on the lookout for a new website that is being built.
Every year at Azusafest the “William J. Seymour Award” is given. This year my wife and I were the recipients of the award.
Apostle Wilma Berry, my wife and I, along with Troy, are excited about all that God has planned as we build an “Azusa Army” that desires to contend for revival while carrying the fire of God across America and around the world.
Plan to join us the week of April 9, 2026 for Azusafest 2026 as we celebrate the 120th Anniversary of the great Azusa Street Revival!
